The New Orleans Hornets don’t have much P.T. for their rookies

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Rookie Reports by admin on Thursday 12 January 2012 at 5:08 pm

The Hornets are a veteran team with an eye on getting back to the playoffs again in 2011-12, so they don’t have much P.T. for their rookies quite yet.  27-year old point guard Carldell Johnson has played the most of the Hornets’ rookies so far this year.  Johnson has played in 7 games (0 starts) for the Hornets so far this year and he is averaging 7.1 minutes, 2.1 points, 0.6 rebounds and 0.9 assists per game.  26-year old center Gustavo Ayon has played in 4 games (0 starts) for the Hornets so far this year and he is averaging 4.8 minutes, 1.5 points, 1.0 rebound and 0.3 assists per game.  23-year old forward Lance Thomas has played in 2 games (0 starts) for the Hornets so far this year and he is averaging 2.0 minutes and 0.5 points per game.

Quincy Pondexter didn’t show much for the New Orleans Hornets in 2010-11

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Rookie Reports by admin on Saturday 16 April 2011 at 3:55 pm

23-year old forward Quincy Pondexter didn’t get much of a chance to prove himself this year for the Hornets.  He played in 66 games (6 starts) for the Hornets this year and he averaged 11.1 minutes, 2.8 points, 1.3 rebounds and 0.4 assists per game.  I have a feeling that Pondexter will get more P.T. starting in 2011-12 for the Hornets.

Quincy Pondexter will be seeing his P.T. shrink up for the New Orleans Hornets

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Rookie Reports by admin on Friday 4 March 2011 at 8:58 pm

22-year old rookie small forward Quincy Pondexter is likely going to see his P.T. dry up due to the Hornets’ acquisition of Carl Landry last week.  That means that he will have to be ready whenever he gets the call if he wants to impress the guys in charge of the Hornets.  Pondexter has played in 50 games (3 starts) for the Hornets so far this year and he is averaging 10.8 minutes, 2.8 points, 1.3 rebounds and 0.4 assists per game.  Pondexter looks like he’s going to be a good player in the NBA, but it might be a while before he gets big minutes.

Quincy Pondexter isn’t getting much P.T. for the New Orleans Hornets

The Hornets really like 22-year old rookie small forward Quincy Pondexter but they just don’t have much P.T. available for him this year.  Pondexter has played in 34 games (0 starts) for the Hornets so far this year and he is averaging 10.2 minutes, 2.6 points, 1.3 rebounds and 0.2 assists per game.  Pondexter will likely have a big role for the Hornets down the road but for now he will need to practice hard and play well when he gets a few minutes.

Quincy Pondexter is doing a lot of bench warming so far for the New Orleans Hornets

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Rookie Reports by admin on Thursday 23 December 2010 at 2:26 am

The Hornets have a lot of veterans ahead of 22-year old small forward Quincy Pondexter on the depth chart so he’s not likely to get a lot of P.T. as a rookie.  Pondexter has played in 19 games (0 starts) for the Hornets so far this year and he is averaging 9.8 minutes, 2.6 points, 1.3 rebounds and 0.1 assists per game.  Everyone can see that Pondexter is a talented player but he’s going to have to bide his time.

Quincy Pondexter is going to be watching the veterans of the New Orleans Hornets a lot this year

22-year old rookie forward Quincy Pondexter isn’t going to get much P.T. this season as a rookie for the Hornets. Pondexter has played in 4 games (0 starts) so far this year and he is averaging 9.5 minutes, 2.5 points, 1.8 rebounds and 0.3 assists per game. The Hornets have high hopes for Pondexter who was a first round pick but they are going to bring him along slowly.

The New Orleans Hornets did outstanding in last June’s NBA Draft

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Rookie Reports by alleyoop on Friday 16 April 2010 at 10:26 am

The Hornets have to be ecstatic with the play of their rookies this year. 22-year old point guard Darren Collison was outstanding for the Hornets last season. He played in 76 games (37 starts) for the Hornets this year and he averaged 27.8 minutes, 12.4 points, 2.5 rebounds, 5.7 assists and 1.0 steal per game. He shot 40% from three point range this season which is also outstanding. Collison’s emergence could make the Hornets comfortable in trading Chris Paul which is crazy when you think about it. 22-year old shooting guard Marcus Thornton was also outstanding this year for the Hornets. Thornton played in 73 games (17 starts) for the Hornets this season and he averaged 25.6 minutes, 14.5 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game. No team did better in the NBA Draft last season overall than the Hornets did, period.

Marcus Thornton is on fire right now for the New Orleans Hornets

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Rookie Reports,Steppin Up by alleyoop on Tuesday 2 March 2010 at 1:34 pm

Something has gotten into rookie shooting guard Marcus Thornton lately. In his last 5 games, Thornton is averaging 32.8 minutes, 26.2 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game. He is shooting an amazing 53.8% from three point range in his last five games for the Hornets. Overall, Thornton has played in 52 games (6 starts) for the Hornets this year and he is averaging 22.3 minutes, 12.3 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.0 assist per game. He is now shooting 40.2% from three point range this season. Darren Collison and Marcus Thornton have really given the Hornets a huge boost in the absence of Chris Paul and they hope they keep up the good work.

With Chris Paul out, Darren Collison is playing great for the New Orleans Hornets

The New Orleans Hornets’ star point guard Chris Paul has missed 12 straight games with a knee injury, but the Hornets have still  been getting great production from the point guard position.  That is because CP3′s rookie back-up, Darren Collison, is playing some great basketball for the Hornets.  Since Paul’s injury, Collison has stepped in as the starting point guard for the Hornets and in the 12 games without Paul he is averaging 20.5 points, 9.6 assists, 4.4 rebounds, 1.7 steals, and is shooting 48% from the field and 35% from three.  Those numbers are very close to the season averages Paul had before his injury:  20.4 points, 11.2 assists, 4.6 rebounds, 2.3 steals, 50% FG, and 42% from three.  The Hornets are 5-7 in Paul’s absence, but they should be happy with that record as most expected the Hornets to completely fall apart without their superstar.  Collison is proving he can be a great point guard in this league and Chris Paul doesn’t have to worry about rushing back from injury.  That being said, Paul still makes the Hornets a much better team and Collison may not be able to continue playing at such a high level, especially since he is just a rookie.

Darren Collison is now the starting point guard for the New Orleans Hornets

With Chris Paul out for the next 4-8 weeks it’s up to rookie Darren Collison to run the offense. He has played in 41 games (9 starts) for the Hornets this season and he is averaging 17.4 minutes, 6.8 points, 1.9 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game. The problem with Collison is that he is not as good as Paul at anything making this a tough job for him. He is shooting 41.4% from the floor and 29.4% from three point range so the Hornets will probably have him passing a lot more than he is used to. Collison’s play will determine if the Hornets still have a shot for the playoffs when Chris Paul returns.
