The Hornets came out flat last night as they were behind 59-41 at the half.  They also didn’t show any toughness as they were outrebounded 44-24 and the Lakers shot 58.6% from the floor.  Chris Paul led the way for the Hornets last night with 20 points, 3 rebounds, 7 assists and 3 steals.  Marco Belinelli only shot 4 of 16 from the floor but he still finished up with 15 points, 1 rebound and 1 steal.  Jarrett Jack (12 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal in 14 minutes) and Emeka Okafor (10 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 blocked shot) also pitched in for the Hornets last night.  The Hornets are now 18-14 on the year.

Trevor Ariza is ice cold shooting the ball for the New Orleans Hornets

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Need to step up by admin on Tuesday 28 December 2010 at 9:51 pm

25-year old small forward Trevor Ariza is a good defensive player and he’s a great finisher on the fast break but he’s awful as a shooter.  In his last five games, Ariza is averaging 37.4 minutes, 9.6 points, 7.2 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 2.0 steals per game.  But, he is only shooting 28.1% from the floor and he is 2 for 20 (10%) from three point range.  Ariza has now played in 31 games (all starts) for the Hornets so far this year and he is averaging 33.9 minutes, 10.5 points, 5.7 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.5 steals per game.  He is only shooting 36.8% from the floor, 25.4% from three point range and 70.8% from the free throw line so far this year.  Ariza is a much better player when he lets the other guys on the team shoot the ball.

Quincy Pondexter is doing a lot of bench warming so far for the New Orleans Hornets

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Rookie Reports by admin on Thursday 23 December 2010 at 2:26 am

The Hornets have a lot of veterans ahead of 22-year old small forward Quincy Pondexter on the depth chart so he’s not likely to get a lot of P.T. as a rookie.  Pondexter has played in 19 games (0 starts) for the Hornets so far this year and he is averaging 9.8 minutes, 2.6 points, 1.3 rebounds and 0.1 assists per game.  Everyone can see that Pondexter is a talented player but he’s going to have to bide his time.

The Hornets put on a dominating display of basketball in this game.  They shot 50.7% from the floor while holding the Jazz to 35.8%.  The Hornets hit the glass hard as they outrebounded the Jazz 53-24 which helps explain the beatdown they applied tonight.  David West led the way for the Hornets in this game with 23 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal and 2 blocked shots.  Marcus Thornton was electric off the bench in this game as he shot 8 of 10 from the floor to finish with 19 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist and 2 steals in only 24 minutes on the floor.  Trevor Ariza filled up the stat sheet with 17 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal and 1 blocked shot.  Chris Paul did a good job of running the offense as he had 10 points, 7 rebounds, 10 assists and 1 steal in this game.  The Hornets are now 16-10 on the year.
