The New Orleans Hornets let Brandon Bass leave town

The Hornets have let Brandon Bass go as he has signed as a free agent with the Dallas Mavericks.  Bass played 2 seasons in New Orleans and he played in 50 games (4 starts) and he averaged 8.6 minutes, 2.2 points, 2.2 rebounds and 0.1 assists per game.  He only made 37.7% of his shots from the floor and 68.6% of his shots from the free throw line.  Bass shouldn’t be much of a loss for the Hornets or a gain for the Mavericks.

The Hornets let Desmond Mason walk

The Hornets needed guards that could shoot better so they let Desmond Mason walk after they signed Morris Peterson to replace him.  Mason played in 75 games (all starts) for the Hornets last season and he averaged 13.7 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game.  He shot 45.2% from the floor and 66.3% from the free throw line.  The Hornets are willing to bet that Morris Peterson will have a better year than Desmond Mason will for Milwaukee and I think they will be right.

The New Orleans Hornets sign Morris Peterson

The Hornets have signed Morris Peterson to a 4-year contract and he will become their starting shooting guard.  He played in 71 games (12 starts) last season for the Raptors and he averaged 21.3 minutes, 8.9 points, 3.3 rebounds and 0.7 assists per game.  He shot 42.9% from the floor, 35.9% from three point range and 68.3% from the free throw line.

Peterson has played in 542 games (364 starts) in his NBA career and he has averaged 29.6 minutes, 12.0 points, 3.8 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.0 steal per game.  He has hit 42.1% from the floor, 37.1% from three point range and 78.2% from the free throw line.

This was a nice signing by the Hornets who needed a good outside shooter for their offense and Peterson can definately do that.
