Rookie big men playing well

Blogged under Front Page,Rookie Reports by Nothing but Net on Wednesday 13 December 2006 at 12:41 am

The Hornets wanted size so they drafted Cedric Simmons and Hilton Armstrong in the first round.  Cedric Simmons has played in 20 games and has averaged 15.9 minutes, 3.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 0.3 assists and 0.9 blocks per game so far this season.

Hilton Armstrong has played in 11 games and has averaged 10.2 minutes, 4.5 points, 3.0 rebounds and 0.1 assists per game so far this season.  Armstrong has hit an outstanding 66.7% of his shots from the floor.

Marcus Vinicius has only played in 5 games and has averaged 5.8 minutes, 1.0 point, 0.2 rebounds and 0.4 assists per game so far this season.

The Hornets look like they got a nice haul in the draft this season.  Both Simmons and Armstrong could be starters one day for New Orleans.

David West could miss serious time

Blogged under Front Page,Injuries by Nothing but Net on Monday 11 December 2006 at 11:56 pm

West continues to have swelling in his right elbow and will be out indefinately.  The Hornets are hoping that West will not require surgery because they really need his rebounding.  West is averaging 17.4 points and 8.3 rebounds so far this season.

Peja Stojakovic out for awhile

Blogged under Front Page,Injuries by Nothing but Net on Monday 11 December 2006 at 11:53 pm

This loss really hurts the Hornets.  Stojakovic has a back injury and is out indefinately.  Peja was averaging 17.8 points and 4.2 rebounds so far this season.  Stojakovic is the Hornets best shooter and they need him back as soon as possible.

Bobby Jackson to miss time

Blogged under Front Page,Injuries by Nothing but Net on Monday 11 December 2006 at 11:51 pm

Bobby Jackson cracked his left rib on November 28th and will miss 2-3 weeks.  The Hornets will miss Jackson’s firepower off the bench.  Jackson is averaging 10.9 points and 4.1 rebounds so far this season.

Blogged under Front Page by Nothing but Net on Thursday 7 December 2006 at 5:27 pm

The Hornets were missing quite a few players on Wednesday Night, but you would never know it by watching this game.  The Hornets rushed out to a 51-37 halftime lead and made it stand.  The Hornets also out-rebounded the Lakers 49-31.

Chris Paul had a fantastic game at the point guard position with 26 points, 6 rebounds, 11 assists and 3 steals.  Rasual Butler had a great game in a rare start with 22 points and 6 rebounds.  Jannero Pargo scored 21 points off the bench.  Desmond Mason hit the boards and played a great game with 16 points and 10 rebounds.  Tyson Chandler provided the muscle and the defense around the basket.  Chandler scored 10 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and blocked 3 shots.

Tyson Chandler providing muscle and defense

Blogged under Front Page,Steppin Up by Nothing but Net on Tuesday 5 December 2006 at 3:11 pm

The Hornets have enough players that can score, so Tyson Chandler can focus on what he does best which is playing defense and rebounding.  Chandler has only averaged 5.6 points per game, but 12.2 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game.  Chandler’s whole offensive game is put-backs and dunks which explains his 66.7% shooting from the floor.
