The Hornets spent some money and brought in veteran gunner Peja Stojakovic to bring a little more firepower to the offense.  Stojakovic is an outstanding shooter from anywhere on the court (46.1% FGs, 39.9% 3’s, 89.4% FT) and is a fine overall offensive player.  Peja has averaged 18.4 points, 5.1 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.0 steals per game over his career.

Linton Johnson is the back-up for the Hornets.  Johnson doesn’t have much of an offensive game, but he’s a good rebounder.  Johnson has averaged 4.1 points & 3.9 rebounds per game over his young NBA career.

The Hornets were leading this game 38-13 after the first quarter and at one point were up 27 points!  The Hornets just lacked the killer instinct to finish off the Blazers and their shooting went cold after the first quarter.  Peja Stojakovic led the way with 21 points.  Desmond Mason had a solid game with 18 points and 6 rebounds.  David West had a strong game with 17 points, 13 rebounds and 2 blocked shots.  Bobby Jackson came off of the bench and added 15 points.  Chris Paul was ice-cold shooting the ball (6 of 17 from the floor) and finished will 12 points, 3 rebounds and 8 assists.

This was a disappointing loss for the Hornets who fall to 4-2 on the season.

This was an exciting game from start to finish.  Both teams shot well (N.O. 50.6%,  G.S. 51.3%), but the Hornets lost this game despite out-rebounding the Warriors 45-30….kinda strange.  Chris Paul led the way, as always, with 34 points, 3 rebounds, 10 assists and 2 steals.  Peja Stojakovic had a decent game with 18 points and 7 rebounds.  David West was very good last night too with 20 points and 6 rebounds.  Desmond Mason chipped in with 16 points.  Tyson Chandler only scored 4 points, but he was a demon on the boards with 11 rebounds.  Bobby Jackson provided good energy off of the bench with 12 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists.

You can’t win them all, but I’m sure that the Hornets are satisfied with their 4-1 start to the season.

The Hornets held off the pesky Warriors, out-rebounding them 52-34!  Chris Paul had another super game with 22 points, 6 rebounds and 11 assists.  Peja Stojakovic added 18 points.  David West had another solid game with 16 points & 11 rebounds.  Desmond Mason was solid with 12 points & 9 rebounds.  Center Tyson Chandler had his best game as a Hornet with 10 points & 14 rebounds.

A nice win for the young Hornets.

David West blossomed in his third season with the Hornets, averaging 17.1 points, 7.4 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game in his first season as a starter.  West gives the Hornets some muscle and athletic ability at the power forward position.  West has only averaged 22.9 minutes per game for his career, with 9.8 points & 5.6 rebounds.

Marc Jackson will be West’s back-up.  Jackson is a decent player as long as he doesn’t play too many minutes.  Jackson has only averaged 19.8 minutes per game over his career, but 8.6 points and 4.4 rebounds per game.

1st round pick Cedric Simmons gives the Hornets a good defender and rebounder when he will get to play, which probably won’t be much as a rookie.
