Small Forwards

The Hornets spent some money and brought in veteran gunner Peja Stojakovic to bring a little more firepower to the offense.  Stojakovic is an outstanding shooter from anywhere on the court (46.1% FGs, 39.9% 3′s, 89.4% FT) and is a fine overall offensive player.  Peja has averaged 18.4 points, 5.1 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.0 steals per game over his career.

Linton Johnson is the back-up for the Hornets.  Johnson doesn’t have much of an offensive game, but he’s a good rebounder.  Johnson has averaged 4.1 points & 3.9 rebounds per game over his young NBA career.

Hornets lose heartbreaker 92-91 to Trailblazers

Blogged under Front Page by Nothing but Net on Saturday 11 November 2006 at 12:43 pm

The Hornets were leading this game 38-13 after the first quarter and at one point were up 27 points!  The Hornets just lacked the killer instinct to finish off the Blazers and their shooting went cold after the first quarter.  Peja Stojakovic led the way with 21 points.  Desmond Mason had a solid game with 18 points and 6 rebounds.  David West had a strong game with 17 points, 13 rebounds and 2 blocked shots.  Bobby Jackson came off of the bench and added 15 points.  Chris Paul was ice-cold shooting the ball (6 of 17 from the floor) and finished will 12 points, 3 rebounds and 8 assists.

This was a disappointing loss for the Hornets who fall to 4-2 on the season.

Hornets lose re-match with Warriors 121-116

Blogged under Front Page by Nothing but Net on Friday 10 November 2006 at 11:15 am

This was an exciting game from start to finish.  Both teams shot well (N.O. 50.6%,  G.S. 51.3%), but the Hornets lost this game despite out-rebounding the Warriors 45-30….kinda strange.  Chris Paul led the way, as always, with 34 points, 3 rebounds, 10 assists and 2 steals.  Peja Stojakovic had a decent game with 18 points and 7 rebounds.  David West was very good last night too with 20 points and 6 rebounds.  Desmond Mason chipped in with 16 points.  Tyson Chandler only scored 4 points, but he was a demon on the boards with 11 rebounds.  Bobby Jackson provided good energy off of the bench with 12 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists.

You can’t win them all, but I’m sure that the Hornets are satisfied with their 4-1 start to the season.

Hornets hold off the Warriors 97-93

Blogged under Front Page by Nothing but Net on Wednesday 8 November 2006 at 12:57 am

The Hornets held off the pesky Warriors, out-rebounding them 52-34!  Chris Paul had another super game with 22 points, 6 rebounds and 11 assists.  Peja Stojakovic added 18 points.  David West had another solid game with 16 points & 11 rebounds.  Desmond Mason was solid with 12 points & 9 rebounds.  Center Tyson Chandler had his best game as a Hornet with 10 points & 14 rebounds.

A nice win for the young Hornets.

Power Forwards

David West blossomed in his third season with the Hornets, averaging 17.1 points, 7.4 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game in his first season as a starter.  West gives the Hornets some muscle and athletic ability at the power forward position.  West has only averaged 22.9 minutes per game for his career, with 9.8 points & 5.6 rebounds.

Marc Jackson will be West’s back-up.  Jackson is a decent player as long as he doesn’t play too many minutes.  Jackson has only averaged 19.8 minutes per game over his career, but 8.6 points and 4.4 rebounds per game.

1st round pick Cedric Simmons gives the Hornets a good defender and rebounder when he will get to play, which probably won’t be much as a rookie.

Hornets beat flat Rockets 96-90

Blogged under Front Page by Nothing but Net on Monday 6 November 2006 at 1:26 am

The Rockets came out flat after their big win on Saturday, and the Hornets held them to 15 points in the first quarter.  The Hornets kept the pressure on the Rockets and held on for a victory.  David West led the way with 22 points and 6 rebounds.  Chris Paul had a good game with 12 points, 3 rebounds, 16 assists and 3 steals.  Peja Stojakovic (16 points), Bobby Jackson (12 points) & Rasual Butler (11 points) all added to the victory for the Hornets.

Hornets win 100-91 over the Pacers

Blogged under Front Page by Nothing but Net on Saturday 4 November 2006 at 2:17 am

The Hornets out-scored the Pacers 31-19 in the 4th quarter to pull out a victory on the road.  David West led the Hornets with 20 points and 6 rebounds.  Chris Paul added 16 points and 6 assists.  Desmond Mason (10 points), Jannero Pargo (10 points) and Rasual Butler (11 points) pitched in on offense for the Hornets.

This was a super road win for the Hornets.

Primoz Brezec out

Blogged under Front Page by Nothing but Net on Thursday 2 November 2006 at 5:23 pm

Starting center Primoz Brezec will miss the first two weeks due to exhaustion and dehydration.  Brezec had not been feeling well and losing weight, but the trainers insist that Brezec will be 100% when he comes back.  Brezec will be missed because he averaged 12.4 points and 5.6 rebounds per game last season.

Hornets win on the road 91-87 in Boston

Blogged under Front Page by Nothing but Net on Thursday 2 November 2006 at 5:19 pm

Chris Paul led the Hornets with 20 points, 7 rebounds, 10 assists and 3 steals.  David West scored 18 points and grabbed 8 rebounds.  Bobby Jackson came off of the bench and added 14 points in 27 minutes.  The defense is what really won this game for the Hornets as they held the Celtics to 40% shooting from the field.

Shooting Guards

Blogged under Front Page by Nothing but Net on Thursday 2 November 2006 at 5:14 pm

The Hornets will start Desmond Mason at shooting guard.  Mason is a very athletic player, but he’s not a good shooter, so he tries to get to the rim.  Mason has averaged 12.6 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game for his career. Mason is a good complimentary player on a team that won’t depend on him to score.

Rasual Butler will be Mason’s back-up and he has a similar skill-set, except that he’s a good 3-point shooter (36.9% for his career).  Butler has only played 20.2 minutes per game in his career, averaging 7.5 points, 2.4 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game.

Mason & Butler together will give the Hornets decent minutes at shooting guard.
